The puzzles are simple trial and error, which is just as well because there is no logic to them or none that I can see. That being the case, the experience relies on the mystique of its aesthetic and its narrative content, which I take no pleasure in saying did not provide to me the kind of thrill and insight that I was hoping for. Also, I think the gameplay does not really match the theme of the game: the mechanics are mundane and do not reinforce the emotional content of the events, so the gameplay is divorced from the psychological significance of the story, so while what is happening is puzzling and disconcerting, what the player is doing is a moderately tedious connect-the-dots logical routine so you are kind of taking the story in separately from the gameplay. And like I said, I dont want to beat this point ot death but the story is trying to be deeper than it really is in my estimation. Still I would say a very nicely put-together game especially for one guy to have made it. Very few people are amazing right away so knowing how to finish something is a huge thing to have in the long run so respect for that.

OK, but philosophically weak and trite.

I just finished the entire game a few minutes ago. It only takes a few hours at most to complete. It is a decent little indie horror game. It has no combat gameplay whatsoever and is purely story based. It's a fairly good game if you want a short horror game where you can just experience the atmosphere without having to concern yourself with how well you play the game. It has little to no skill requirements and is essentially just a narrative experience with light puzzle elements. The underlying philosophical message of the game is basically just a standard generic "don't be too greedy" message. Some of that message (to not be exploitive to other people etc) is fair and good of course, but some of it comes across as disproportionate and overly angsty. The message of the story is definitely philosophically weak and trite. It attacks a very straw-man view of capitalism basically. It is really lacking in nuance and is quite stereotypical and morally transparent and presumptuous. It's like the kind of story you'd expect an angsty teenager would write. The emotional maturity here is pretty low. It's like if some random person on a pro-communism anti-capitalist user forum decided to make a narrative horror game. It exaggerates one side of the issue in the most simplistic way it possibly can to make it appear more sympathetic, but then steamrolls over any kind of nuance involved in it. The best way to improve this game would have been to add some more substantive plot elements to the story. As it stands though, the underlying message is too generic, angsty, and weak. The game may be philosophically shallow, but it's a fairly well put together game and worth the experience if you're interested in a short story based horror game. The author clearly put a lot of work into it and the overall quality is good. There were no apparent bugs. It is a respectable game overall, despite being so trite. I still enjoyed the few hours it took to complete it.

Nice Little game runs on Linux.

I got this game because it was free and I wanted to test it on Linux. Well it is a nice little game. and it runs perfectly on Linux. I am running Ubuntu 18.04.01 Radeon GPU and Wine staging. I am pretty sure it will run fine with Ubuntu's standard Wine but I like to game and Wine Staging is not hard to install if you go to Wine HQ.org. So if you have Linux and want a cool little game don't be afraid to take this one for a spin.

2D horror adventure you don't wanna miss

Don't let the look of this indie game fool you. As someone whose not played a lot of horror themed adventure games let alone 2D ones, I can say it stands on it's own with a pretty intriguing story to tell. Recommended for people who have patience & can relate to some of the messages told. As for giving it 4/5 stars, I would say in the last 3rd of the game there was a part where I got stuck in a constant loop of rooms & hallways as I was trying to figure out the puzzle but other than that it's an overall great experience and I'll be keeping my eye out for similar games in the genre. Also a huge thanks to GOG for giving this game away and the dev for making such a good game.

Flawed execution of a great concept.

I received this game for free from GOG. I'm unhappy giving this game a 3 star rating because it's obvious the love and meaning put into it, but I need to be honest. The gameplay is lacking, even considering it's trying to be simple. There's a lot of trial and error, fetch quests, and backtracking. The occasional time-sensitive gameplay elements are usually incredibly tight to the point of annoyance. The story isn't terribly compelling for me, but it may speak to others. It's simplistic and on the nose, but done with passion and may have suffered from translation issues. There's little character growth or investment, but it's obvious that the creator feels something and wants the player to feel the same. Horror elements are lacking and done poorly. Atmopshere is almost entirely accomplished through very overblown music, and at one point I thought about how typical it would be with any other soundtrack. It may be frightening if you settle into the mood, but I didn't think it was worthy of any title of "horror," psychological or not. Now that I've torn into the game, why do I give it three stars? Because every step feels like it's important to the developer. Every sprite, every word, every interaction feels like it's supposed to express this deep feeling . . . and that's very endearing. I don't know if it's worth a purchase, I'm glad I got it for free and I won't play it again, but I think it's a solid, heartfelt game that is actually a complete game. If you're interested in rewarding that, it's probably worth a purchase, but don't expect too much from it. I do expect to see good things from this developer in the future.
